In 1998 Butterfly Art Barbie, Barbie with a tattoo on her stomach, set off a firestorm of complaints to the Mattel Company and the dolls were pulled from the shelves. After the complainers moved on to the next culture war issue, Butterfly Barbie returned along with Butterfly Christie, Teresa, Kira, Skipper even Ken got in on the tattoo action. If Barbie’s stomach tattoo was a bit lower she could be in the “Butterfly Club Barbie”.
