Vintage Rock of Ages Print

The Rock of Ages is a classic religious image that worked its way into the tattoo world in the 1800s. The Rock of Ages story starts with the 1763 Christian hymn by Augustus Toplady. In the 1860s, German born artist Johannes Oertel painted a picture first titled Saved that depicted a woman clinging to a cross in a wave- tossed sea. This painting was retitled Rock of Ages, reproduced and sold around the world. The lithographic Rock of Ages print seen here is a bit tattered around the edges but in good condition.
