When Shotsie arrived in New York City he was a struggling sculptor making a living doing carpentry work. He started dreaming of being a tattooist when he met Mike Bakaty. Following that dream he traveled to Los Angeles to meet Cliff Raven. Cliff tried to get Shotsie in with Spider Webb but that did not work. So Shotsie worked underground in NYC until 1981 when he got his first shop in Union City, New Jersey. After that rocky start Shotsie went on to become a first rate tattooist. This 1982 poster is from those lean years in New Jersey.
