Horonuku Te Heuheu Tukino IV (1821–1888), also known as Patātai (also spelled Patatai or Pataatai), was paramount chief of Ngati Tuwharetoa a Maori tribe of the centrl North Island of New Zealand. His birth name was Patātai; he assumed the name Horonuku – meaning landslide – after the death of his parents in an1846 landslide. He was placed under house arrest in 1887 by the Crown and forced to gift the mountains of Ruapehu Tongariro Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe to the Crown for the creation of Tongario Nationa Park. This stamp was issued by the New Zealand government in the 1980s.
